Packed lunches

If your child has a packed lunch for school or for school trips we would like to encourage healthier packed lunches. Welsh Government have created a useful leaflet with some ideas - found below in the documents section.

To avoid food poisoning keep packed lunches cool. We do not have a fridge to store packed lunches in school.  If pupils bring their own packed lunches, we suggest that they are kept cool (especially if they contain cooked meats or dairy products).

Place ice packs or a frozen carton of juice in the packed lunch box to keep the contents cool.

If packed lunches are prepared the night before, always store them in a fridge overnight.

Water

We actively encourage pupils to drink water across the whole school day.  Pupils can bring their own water bottles to school which should only contain water.  We have water schools at both sites that pupils can use to fill their bottles.

Caffi Morfa

Our Post-16 pupils run a healthy café at our Ffordd Derwen site each morning from which pupils can purchase a range of healthy drinks and snacks.

The food provided in Caffi Morfa meets the Food in Schools regulations for Wales.

Shop, Cook and Eat

At Ysgol Tir Morfa pupils have regular opportunities to engage in food related activities. Healthier food choices are regularly promoted.

Pupils plan, budget and shop for a range of meals using local supermarkets. They then return to school to cook the meals and eat them together as a group.
